Five HEEP Pre-Doctoral Fellows Receive Degrees and New Placements

Five Pre-Doctoral Fellows with the Harvard Environmental Economics Program received their Ph.D’s on Thursday, May 26, 2022 and have accepted new positions.  They are as follows:

Sarah Armitage:   Sarah is now an Economist Fellow at the Environmental Defense Fund. She will join the faculty of Boston University’s Questrom School of Business in July 2023.  Her disciplinary focus is environmental economics, industrial organization, and public finance.  Sarah received her Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government.

Shweta Bhogale:  Shweta has joined the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) as a Postdoctoral Researcher.  Shweta's interests lie at the intersection of organizational economics and political economy in the context of common pool resources, particularly water. At Harvard, her research focused on the geographical and administrative determinants of water conservation investments by rural communities in India.  Shweta received her Ph.D. in Public Policy. 

Stu Iler:  Stu is now a consultant with Resources for the Future.  Stuart is interested in environmental and energy economics and policy, and in particular the design and evaluation of policies to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. His previous research includes the impact of climate regulation in the electric power sector, potential reform of the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, and comparative evaluation of global energy modeling projections.  Stu received his Ph.D. in Public Policy.

Felipe Jordán:  Felipe is now an assistant professor in the Department of Economics and the Institute for Sustainable Development at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. (Graduated November 2021.)  Felipe’s research focuses on the political economy of sustainable development. He leverages machine learning methods to construct novel data from historical records and satellite imagery and uses these data to study the impact of policies and institutions on economic prosperity and environmental sustainability at the local and national levels, as well as the impact of environmental conditions on human populations.  Felipe received his Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government.

Elizabeth Spink:  Elizabeth is currently a Lecturer in Economics and a research assistant at Tufts University.  Elizabeth’s research interests are at the intersection of environmental and development economics. Specifically, she is interested in the interconnections between humans and the environment and how environmental stresses affect human health and well-being.  Elizabeth received her Ph.D. in Public Policy.
