Peter Tufano is a Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School and Senior Advisor to Harvard’s Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability.   His research focuses on climate finance and climate alliances.  His newest work examines the costs and benefits of climate alliances in the financial service sector, as well as how risks are borne by insurers and others in the face of climate-induced extreme weather.  He created and leads a multi-university team that delivers a unique Salata-supported doctoral offering, “Financial Economics of Climate and Sustainability,” to researchers at over 140 universities and financial regulators.  He co-edits the SSRN Climate Finance e-journal and sits on the Advisory Board of the MSCI Sustainability Institute and other climate- and sustainability-related bodies.  Tufano rejoined the Harvard faculty in 2022 after serving as Dean of the Said Business School at the University of Oxford for a decade.  Previously, he had been on the faculty of Harvard Business School for over two decades, with his research and teaching focusing on financial innovation, financial engineering, risk management, and household finance.  Tufano founded and chairs Commonwealth, which is a national non-profit building financial security and opportunity for financially vulnerable people through innovation and partnerships.
