Geoengineering and Climate Change

Martin Weitzman, a HEEP Faculty Fellow, and Gernot Wagner, a former Pre-Doctoral Fellow of HEEP, recently wrote an article in Foreign Policy, "Playing God," exploring various options for "geoengineering"—and changing attitudes toward these options. The urgency of climate change has convinced some government and private-sector leaders to consider seriously such emerging techniques to shield the Earth from the sun or directly remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, despite their possible negative side effects.
