 Michael Toffel is the Senator John Heinz Professor of Environmental Managment at the Harvard Business School. His [research](http://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/profile.aspx?facId=386263&facInfo=pub) examines how companies measure and reduce the environmental impacts of their operations and supply chains. He also examines alternative institutions that seek to monitor facilities’ environmental performance, including industry self-regulation programs, third-party auditors, and government voluntary approaches. He teaches "[Business and the Environment](http://www.hbs.edu/coursecatalog/1140.html)", an [award-winning](http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2010/05/two-hbs-professors-win-prize-for-sustainability-issues-in-curricula/) MBA elective. He previously worked as a corporate director and consultant in environment, health, and safety management, in Southeast Asia and the United States. Toffel received a PhD in Business Administration from UC Berkeley and an MBA and Master of Environmental Management from Yale University.
