DESCRIPTION:<p>Lunch will be provided.</p><p>The Harvard Environmental Economics Program is co-sponsoring the talk with the <a href="http://www.hks.harvard.edu/hepg/index.html" data-url="http://www.hks.harvard.edu/hepg/index.html">Harvard Electricity Policy Group</a>.</p><p>Alberto Pototschnig is the first Director of the <a href="http://www.acer.europa.eu/Pages/ACER.aspx" data-url="http://www.acer.europa.eu/Pages/ACER.aspx">European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER)</a>, established in 2010 by the European Commission. He took office in September 2010.</p><p><drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="45fa9812-4eef-4957-880a-be100830d09d" data-align="left" alt="Alberto Pototschnig" data-view-mode="hwp_small"></drupal-media>The mission of ACER is to complement and coordinate the work of national energy regulators at the European-Union (EU) level and work towards the completion of a single EU energy market for electricity and natural gas.</p><p>ACER plays a central role in the development of EU-wide network and market rules with a view to enhance competition. It coordinates regional and cross-regional initiatives which favour market integration. It monitors the work of European networks of transmission system operators (ENTSOs) and notably their EU-wide network development plans. Finally, it monitors the functioning of gas and electricity markets in general, and of wholesale energy trading in particular.</p>
