Dr. Denny is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and is a visiting scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for the academic year 2014/2015. Dr. Denny was born in 1979 and studied Economics and Mathematics at University College Dublin, where she also received her doctoral degree in 2007. Dr. Denny’s research interests are in energy economics–in the areas of energy policy, power system operation, and societal issues relating to energy production and consumption. This is an interdisciplinary research area, and Dr. Denny collaborates closely with the engineering discipline.  Her research has also made an impact on policy, with contributions in publications for the International Energy Agency, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations Framework on Climate Change, and through her role on the steering committee of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Ireland.  She has also worked on collaborative research projects with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the United States. Dr. Denny’s other research interests include economics education, and she was the inaugural recipient of the European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Humanities and Social Sciences in 2012.
